The Anna Akhmatova Fellowship for Younger Translators will provide new American translators with the unique opportunity to work with publishers of literary magazines, established translators, and editors. Each fellow will correspond with her or his mentor for the duration of the fellowship, with the goal of putting together a portfolio of new poetry or prose in translation, and finding ways to bring it to the general public.

About Our Fellows
Polina Barskova is widely considered one of the best Russian poets under the age of 40. She is the author of several prize-winning books of poetry in Russian. She was born in Leningrad and currently lives in Massachussetts where she teaches at Hempshire College.
Piotr Florczyk is a poet and translator. In Polish, he is the author of Cztery Pory Roku (Wydawnictwo Mamiko). He also writes original poetry in English. In addition, his translations from Polish into English have appeared in many acclaimed journals, such as World Literature Today and Poetry International. His book of translations of Polish poet Julian Kornhauser is forthcoming from Marick Press. He teaches at University of Delaware.
Deniz Perin is a poet and translator from Turkish and French, whose works appeared in numerous respected literary magazines, such as Atlanta Review and Words Without Borders. She has recently completed a translation manuscript of work of Turkish poet Ece Temelkuran. She teaches at University of San Diego.
Chris Tanasescu is a Romanian poet and translator. His second collection of poems is forthcoming this autumn from Versus Publishers (Iasi). He has also launched two multimedia CDs with Margento—an internationally recognized band that won the Fringiest Event award at Buxton Fringe (UK) 2005. He lives in Bucharest.
The Anna Akhmatova Fellowships for Younger Translators are awarded by internal nomination process. There is no application fee.
